Delivering robust, site-specific shelter systems across the UK, our team recently completed a standout installation at the SPL Compound in Edinburgh — a 40x40ft single trussed steel structure, tailored for multi-purpose use in a high-traffic industrial environment.

Client Requirement & Scope

The client required a reliable, weather-resistant solution to meet operational needs on-site. After an initial site review and consultation, a single trussed design was selected for its cost-efficiency, ease of deployment, and spacious internal clearance — ideal for equipment storage, loading activity, or temporary workshop space.

Pre-Install Planning

To ensure seamless integration, our project team carried out a full site assessment, evaluating load capacity, ground preparation, and workflow access. The single truss system offered the ideal balance between speed of deployment and long-term performance, especially in exposed weather environments like Edinburgh.

Installation Phases

1. Ground Preparation
The installation began with levelling the compound surface to ensure structural integrity over time. Foundation alignment and drainage were key priorities, given the site's exposure to wet weather.

2. Structural Assembly
The 40x40 steel frame was erected with precision using high-tensile components. Front and rear elevations were reinforced to ensure balanced load distribution and wind resistance.

3. Final Fit-Out
Once framed, the structure was covered with a heavy-duty, weather-resistant membrane. Reinforcements were added at tension points to ensure performance in the region’s variable climate.

Challenges & Execution Strategy

Navigating live traffic and logistics in Lennymuir, Ingliston required tight coordination with the client’s operations team. Our crew worked during off-peak hours to reduce disruption, while weather risk was mitigated by deploying within a strategic 3-day install window.

Why Single Trussed Shelters Make Sense

  • Speed of Delivery: Fast to install, with reduced downtime on active sites

  • Cost-Effective Strength: Delivers long-term durability without excess steel weight

  • Multi-Use Flexibility: Open-plan interior ideal for storage, workshops, and temporary use cases

Outcome

The SPL Compound installation demonstrates our ability to deliver scalable, engineered solutions with minimal disruption and maximum site adaptability. The finished result is a reliable, long-span structure — operational immediately and tailored for real-world industrial use.
